A Day in the Life of a Rogue Shop
So here we are, Rogue Shop going into the second month of our first grow season. Do we sit around doing farmer stuff every day? DEFINITELY not. For starters, there are these two humans who expect us to feed them and not just once, but THREE times a day! Then we do school for a few hours each day (thank goodness for The Good and Beautiful boxed curriculum that is open and go!) and then we get to work! Business and sales calls, packing jars, hand packing and rolling pre- rolls, marketing and website building and maintenance, filling orders, experimenting with and crafting new products, researching new products, touring farms, etc. THEN we head out into the fields to weed, prune, and pamper our ladies. *Side note for CBD newbies-female plants have all the power in the cannabis world, which is what inspired the lovely lady in our logo. The female cannabis plant starts as a young baby, matures through a sort of “puberty” and becomes able to reproduce. The beautiful flower that we harvest and use to benefit our health is actually unfertilized flower. Basically male plants are only used for breeding purposes and you NEVER want to see one in a field because they will polinate our ladies and then our gals end up “pregnant” with seeds. Have you ever gotten a seeded out bud? They are no fun! Seeds can alter the taste and results of smokable flower, so we work really hard to make sure that males are not popping up anywhere in our fields. Walking the fields is one of the most important parts of farming. You not only scope out the threats to plants like irrigation issues (leaky drip tape is no plant’s friend) , errant male plants, and demonic weeds, but you also get to see all the positives like watching sickly plants become survivors, the spectacular growth of the plants from one week to the next, and all the incredible cross pollination that happens and the way nature works together in harmony. At Willow Billy farms, the soil is alive and you will rarely see better flower, but also sunflowers, wildflowers, fresh fruits and veggies, chickens, cows, and even a bantam rooster who is as cute as can be. Willow Billy is its own self-sustaining world and it has quickly become the center of our world too. As the sun sets over Willow Billy Farms each evening and the chilly winds come after a hot day’s work, we can’t wait to get up and do it all over again. Each day brings a brand-new problem with brand new solutions, so there is never a dull day here.
