Is CBD Psychoactive or Intoxicating? CBD and THC difference

What Is CBD?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a plant component obtained from hemp. Not to be confused with marijuana, which some people use. THC and CBD interact with the human body through the endocannabinoid system, or ECS for short. The ECS is in charge of regulating biological functions such as sleep, our immune systems, and our mood. Whereas THC causes a distinct ‘high,’ CBD has no such effect. This has made it a highly appealing and legal option for many people who want to adopt it into their lifestyle in order to balance their health and wellbeing.

Psychoactive vs Intoxicating

Before we go into whether CBD is psychoactive or intoxicating, let’s first define what these terms represent and what the distinction is. These terms are frequently used interchangeably but have distinct meanings.

A psychotropic or intoxicating drug is any substance that has an effect on your mental and cognitive faculties. A substance, on the other hand, is termed psychoactive if it can pass the blood-brain barrier. As a result, not all psychoactive compounds are intoxicating, despite the fact that both have an effect on your brain and how it functions.

Is CBD Psychoactive?

Because CBD products are now federally legal and have grown in popularity in recent years, many people are wondering, “Is CBD psychoactive?” In fact, this is one of the most often asked topics by specialists from those interested in trying CBD. The answer is emphatically no. It has no psychoactive properties. It possesses zero psychoactive activity. In other words, it’s impossible to get high off of cannabidiol. It does not interact with the cannabinoid receptors in the brain responsible for the psychoactive response associated with other cannabinoids like delta 8 THC and delta 9 THC.

Keep in mind that products labeled as “CBD” often contain the complete array of chemical compounds in the hemp plant, but these products are still non-psychoactive. How? Because the hemp plant contains too little tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) to cause psychoactive effects, even in large doses. The larger question, though, is whether CBD is intoxicating or not.

Is CBD Intoxicating (i.e. Does it cause a “High”)

While the question differs somewhat, the answer remains the same. CBD by itself is not intoxicating and does not induce the euphoric feelings often associated with cannabis use.

People believe it makes them high since it is derived from hemp, a type of cannabis. The issue here is the term “cannabis.” People equate all aspects of cannabis with getting high due to the historical bad opinion of cannabis. This is simply not true. There’s a lot more to it than just getting high.

Cannabis is a complex plant with over 500 different chemicals, each with its own set of affects and benefits. THC and its derivatives, such as delta-8 and delta-10, are highly intoxicating. Other cannabinoids, such as CBD, CBG, and CBC, have not been linked to inducing a high.

Difference between CBD and THC

Cannabis has a variety of active chemicals that interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system to cause a variety of effects when consumed. The two most well-known compounds are cannabinoids known as THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (short for cannabidiol). The primary distinction between THC and CBD is that CBD does not generate intoxication effects.

THC is the molecule in cannabis that causes psychoactive effects and euphoria. Marijuana naturally includes higher levels of THC, which is why smoking marijuana has such negative effects. It is naturally present in higher concentrations in hemp. Cannabidiol products derived from pure hemp, such as those offered in the Rogue Shop, contain just trace amounts of THC.

When consuming it, some people report feeling more relaxed. While this may be misinterpreted as intoxication, it is only a CBD effect and should not be confused with THC’s damaging psychoactive effects. As a result, low-THC and CBD products with no detectable THC provide the natural advantages of cannabidiol without the intoxicating, or psychoactive, effects of THC.

Is CBD Safe?

CBD is regarded as a safe cannabinoid because it is harmless to the body and is not connected with substantial adverse effects or withdrawal symptoms. It is tolerable in quite high doses for an extended period of time.

However, if you are taking any drugs, you should see your doctor before using cannabidiol. Why? Because it may inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme, which is responsible for the breakdown of several popular medicines like as steroids, antidepressants, and opioids, among others. This could cause drugs to fail to metabolise effectively, allowing them to accumulate in potentially toxic quantities in the blood.

It does not seem to cause any major side effects, but in rare cases, particularly high doses may lead to:

Dizziness

Grogginess

Sleepiness

Temporarily Reduced Blood Pressure

Headache

Dry Mouth

Dry Eyes

Can CBD Make You Fail a Drug Test?

It will not cause a failed drug test. Employer-mandated urine testing do not look for cannabidiol in any way. They’re looking for THC-COOH, an enzyme that degrades THC in the body. Because it does not result in the release of THC-COOH, eating the cannabinoid has no effect on a drug test. However Delta 8,9,10 etc. will cause a failed test.

Is CBD Addictive?

It has no addictive properties because it is not psychoactive. It is only manufactured in from the hemp plant; while it is of the same species as cannabis, it does not contain THC. This is known to cause sensations of euphoria. THC has the potential to develop addiction because it binds to endocannabinoid receptors in areas of the brain that influence pleasure. It does not have this capability.

Is Full Spectrum CBD Psychoactive?

While full spectrum CBD contains trace amounts of THC (less than 0.3%), this amount is not psychoactive. With full spectrum, you may reap the advantages of a whole cannabis profile without concern of experiencing a high.
